DESIGN AND PRODUCTION ACCORDING TO STANDARD
Since the 1950s, Novoferm Schievano has been designing high-tech doors. It produces them in compliance with the quality standards required by ISO 9001:2008 Certification and applies a strict internal production control protocol.

TYPES OF FIRE DOORS:

  • Hinged fire doors:
are doors that can be based on single or double leaf. Their construction characteristics envisage the use of materials designed for high resistance to flames: high thickness fireproof steel structure, insulating panel and thermo-expanding perimeter gaskets, fireproof handles and lock. In the case of glazed doors, the glass applied complies with current fire safety standards.

  • Sliding fire doors:
suitable for closing large industrial rooms, this type involves, like the other, the use of steel or metal alloys with high thickness and heat resistance. In addition to the structure, the frame, hinges, handles and locks are also made of fireproof material with high heat resistance. Safety is also guaranteed by the presence of gaskets that block the passage of air while resisting fire.

FIRE CLASSIFICATION: REI OR EI?

For a door to be considered fireproof, it must fulfil two basic characteristics:

  • Self-closing:
the door must close by itself by means of devices such as spring hinges, door closers or counterweights in the case of sliding doors.
  • The fire resistance
of a closing element is expressed by an interval in minutes, during which the door retains its sealing and/or thermal insulation properties.

There are different standards that determine the classification of fire doors:

  • European standard EN 16034
  • Specific standard for each country, for Italy it is UNI 9723

The European and Italian standards are very similar: they have a similar classification which is expressed as follows ("EI" for EN 16034, "REI" for UNI 9723):
