Tips and tricks for garage doors

ROLLTOR GARAGE

COMPARING ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

Today, the choice of garage doors is very wide. The market caters for numerous material requirements and almost all possible colours. There are also options for customising the appearance of the garage door. In the beginning, however, you have to decide on the type of door you want or need.

This is where things get a bit complicated, because not all door types are suitable for all garages. Some garage doors simply do not make sense for some parking spaces. Andre may have particular potential. The roller garage door is a design that can be used to relatively frequent advantage. Here you can read about its strengths and weaknesses, installation tips and other key information on roller garage doors!

ROLLER GARAGE DOORS ARE PARTICULARLY SUITABLE FOR THIS PURPOSE

  • Roller shutters can be installed in most garages. They require relatively little space behind the garage lintel and are also relatively inexpensive.
  • They are particularly suitable for low garages, as they take up almost no space when opened or rolled up. The free height can be fully utilised.
  • In addition, roller garage doors can also close perfectly on uneven floors thanks to the slats mounted one on top of the other so that they can move.
  • Roller garage doors are available in all standard widths: for small openings of just over two metres, for example, to very wide entrances of over five metres.
  • It is also possible to obtain roller garage doors with different fittings: Roller garage doors with or without remote control, smart home functions, additional insulation, etc.
  • Last but not least, roller garage doors are timelessly chic thanks to their clean look and refined slat design.

TALKING AGAINST THE ROLLER GARAGE DOOR

  • Rolling shutters are also not ideal for use everywhere: If there is little space behind the garage lintel, rolling up can be obstructed.
  • Furthermore, a roller garage door is somewhat less effective than its competitors when it comes to burglary protection. These doors are less convenient to close. The opening mechanism also offers less resistance. The plastic variants are even relatively easy to break down.
  • Those looking for a roller garage door with a hatch will unfortunately not find what they are looking for. Due to the very narrow slatted design, it is not possible to integrate a hinged door.

IS THERE ALSO A ROLLER GARAGE DOOR WITH A DOOR?

Unfortunately, it is not possible to integrate a door into a roller door. At least not directly into the opening door, as is the case with sectional doors or overhead doors.

There are, however, special roller garage doors with a door. In this case, the roller door is installed next to the roller element in an additional lightweight wall. The latter is designed to resemble the appearance of the roller door, but cannot be rolled up.

Probably the best alternative to the roll-up door is the sectional door. This type of door eliminates all disadvantages and offers many of the advantages mentioned above. Sectional doors also consist of individual slats or sections. However, these are larger, which makes the integration of a sectional door possible. The sectional door is not rolled up, but runs on a track close to the garage ceiling. The system is therefore also very space-saving. Furthermore, the profiles are often made of metal and the doors are equipped with highly pressure-resistant motors, making them extremely safe.
